At our workplace on the Ångström campus, there are many nationally and internationally leading research environments, in everything from experimental sciences to basic research. The Department of Information Technology and the Department of Mathematics at Uppsala University offer a combination of an international, interdisciplinary environment with strong research profiles. Our researchers work in all areas of mathematics and information technology, with everything from theory to applications. We are now looking for an assistant senior lecturer who wants to help develop/strengthen our research and education in mathematics or information technology.

The Department of Information Technology and the Department of Mathematics have leading positions in both research and education at all levels. The departments also actively pursue equal opportunities.
The Department of Information Technology is currently Uppsala University's third largest department and has just over 350 employees, of which 120 are teachers and 120 are doctoral students. The department is responsible for courses within a number of different study programs at undergraduate and graduate levels. Approximately 5,000 undergraduate students take one or more courses at the department each year. The department has ten research programs: Artificial Intelligence, Image Analysis and Human-Computer Interaction, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Computer Science Education, Computer Architecture and Communication, Computer Engineering, Numerical Analysis, Control Engineering and Applied Computational Science. The department runs a career program for the more than 20 assistant senior lecturers who work at the department.
The Department of Mathematics conducts research and offers teaching at bachelor's and master's levels in mathematics, applied mathematics and statistics. The number of employees is 130, including 40 doctoral students. The department is responsible for courses in mathematics and mathematical statistics within a range of different study programmes at undergraduate and advanced levels: a number of different MSc and MSc programmes, teacher training programmes, bachelor's programmes in the faculty's areas and our own programmes – the bachelor's programme and master's programme in mathematics. The department's research in mathematics covers a wide range of subjects, divided into the research areas: Algebra, logic and representation theory, Analysis and partial differential equations, Dynamical systems and number theory, Geometry and physics, Probability theory and combinatorics, and Statistics, AI and data science.

Subject area
The position includes advanced research in one of the departments' research programs/research areas and teaching in mathematics or information technology. The subject area is broad, and we are looking for strong researchers in everything from pure theoretical basic research to applied research. Both specializations within the respective subject and interdisciplinary research are of interest. We are particularly interested in candidates whose research areas strengthen or complement already existing research environments.
Job duties :
You will work with:
Teaching. Teaching includes course responsibility, course administration and supervision of doctoral students.
research. To actively apply for and receive external research grants. To build up one's own research group by defining and planning research activities within the scope of the employment's subject area.
administration. Participate in the general academic work at the department. This includes sitting on committees, taking responsibility beyond one's own research and teaching assignments, participating in the evaluation and development of teaching and research tasks, solving tasks together with colleagues, and helping and giving feedback to colleagues.
to stay up to date within your subject area and follow social developments that are important for your work at Uppsala University.
When selecting qualified applicants, emphasis will be placed primarily on both scientific and pedagogical skills, with particular emphasis on scientific skills. In addition, administrative and management skills will be taken into account.
Qualification requirements
You should have:
PhD in mathematics, within one of the research areas that are central to the Department of Information Technology, or another subject relevant to the position . Applicants will primarily be considered who have completed their PhD or have achieved equivalent competence no more than seven years before the application deadline.
scientific proficiency in mathematics or information technology. When assessing scientific proficiency, scientific quality will be taken into account first and foremost. The scope of the research, primarily depth and breadth, will also be given importance. In addition to academic qualifications, research qualifications from other activities may also be taken into account, which include, for example, technological development and innovation capacity.
have had your main employment and conducted your research activities outside Sweden for at least four years immediately prior to the application deadline. Shorter stays in Sweden totaling no more than twelve months may be accepted.
ability to cooperate and otherwise meet the suitability requirements needed to perform the tasks well.
pedagogical skills, where particular emphasis will be placed on teaching in the subject area relevant to the position, and on pedagogical quality. Scope, both breadth and depth, will also be given importance. In addition to academic qualifications, educational and teaching qualifications from other activities can also be taken into account, which include, for example, supervision, internal training or mentoring programs. The ability to link teaching to research is also included.
have completed five weeks of higher education teaching training relevant to the activity, or be deemed to have equivalent knowledge. The higher education teaching training can be completed during the first two years of employment if there are special reasons.
documented ability to teach in Swedish or English.
documented competence and skill in productive research collaborations and in successfully leading projects.
documented ability to obtain external research grants in competition.
pedagogical skills and scientific competence that are relevant to the subject area of the position and the tasks included in the position.
Desirable/meritorious in other respects
It is an advantage if you have:
Administrative skills. Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work and work in a structured manner with an awareness of quality and goals.
Management skills. To develop, coordinate and manage operations and personnel.

Employment period
The position as an assistant senior lecturer is limited to a maximum of six years and is intended to provide qualifications for a teaching position with higher qualification requirements. During the position, there is the opportunity to apply for promotion to senior lecturer. If the requirements are met and suitability is assessed, the employee is promoted to a permanent position as senior lecturer.
