Sweden: PhD position in Numerical Analysis and Scientific Computing
The Department of Mathematics at Stockholm University welcomes applications for two full-time PhD positions in Computational Mathematics. One of the two positions will be in Numerical Analysis and Scientific Computing.
The PhD candidate will work on advanced computational methods for rational approximation, with a focus on the development, analysis, and implementation of numerically robust and efficient algorithms. Applications will involve surrogate modeling for PDEs (especially wave propagation and scattering), system identification and modeling of dynamical systems, and/or computational linear/nonlinear algebra tasks such as matrix approximation and nonlinear eigenvalue problems.
Applicants should have a strong background in Numerical Analysis and Scientific Computing. Experience with programming (e.g., Python, Julia, or C/C++) is required.
The position is for 5 years, including up to 20% teaching duties. The expected starting date is Fall 2026.
Application deadline: 22 April 2026
