Sweden: PhD position at KTH Royal Institute of Technology
The Department of Mathematics at KTH welcomes applications for a full-time PhD position in Numerical Methods for Functional Calculus. The position is financed by Kristin Kirchner's ERC Starting Grant FunCalc4Stats – Functional Calculus for Computational Statistics funded by the European Research Council.
The PhD candidate will develop foundations for the numerical analysis of operator functions, such as computational methods for fractional powers of differential operators. A particular emphasis will be on the development, error analysis, and efficient implementation of finite element methods (FEM) for such problems.
Applicants should have a strong background in Numerical Analysis (in particular, the Finite Element Method) or in Functional Analysis.
The position is for a duration of 5 years, including 20% departmental duties, mainly teaching for basic level courses. The expected starting date is no later than Fall 2026.
Application deadline: 30 April 2026.
